NEW HARLEY MODELS
Harley-Davidson has announced the new Harley models for 2009. The touring, softail and dyna models had some changes so we decided to list them here. Here's a look at some of the changes.
TOURING
For 2009, Harley is rolling out an all-new Touring chassis. A single-spar, rigid backbone frame and a wider, longer swingarm to improve maneuverability and support around 70 more pounds of load capacity, including five more pounds in each saddlebag and the Tour-Pak. Front and rear suspension have been dialed in and a revised motor-mount system reduces vibration at idle. Front wheels have been increased from 16 to 17 inches (except the Road King Classic), while the 16-inch rear wheel width has increased from three to five inches to accommodate a new, longer-lasting 180/65-16 Dunlop D407 Multi-Tread rear tire. Powertrain revisions include a new 2-1-2 exhaust that gives off less heat and lower final drive ratio for quicker acceleration. The new Touring models are getting great reviews.
IRON 883 SPORTSTER
The Iron 883 model continues the Sportster tradition with responsive handling, smooth clutch effort and durable carbon reinforced drive belt while pushing the styling of motorcycling minimalism to the edge. Decked in black from fender-to-fender, the new Harley-Davidson Iron 883 motorcycle brings the beat of an 883 Evolution® engine backed up by a combo of gritty, old-school garage features like front fork gaiters, drag style handlebar and side-mount license plate holder. A ticket to ride the Iron 883 starts at just $7,899 MSRP, leaving plenty of freedom for customization.
VROD MUSCLE
The new 2009 VRSCF V-Rod Muscle has front air scoops, gun-barrel straight exhausts on each side, clipped front and rear fenders and a meaty 240mm rear tire. Mr. Clean has a stop/tail/turn LED light tucked under the rear fender, a side-mount license plate to keep the fender uncluttered and new silver five-spoke cast aluminum wheels common to all 2009 V-Rods. The changes to the VROD are cosmetic. The drivetrain is unchanged.
HERITAGE SOFTAIL CLASSIC
Updated styling of the Harley-Davidson FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic highlights the eight-model Softail line for 2009. The FL front end features a front fender and chrome nacelle with cleaner styling, while taller handlebars change the rider’s profile. The fuel tank has new glass-filled, 3-D badges and is topped with a “cat eye” console and matching retro speedometer face. Half-moon rider footboards and a large, oval foot brake pad are reminiscent of the past. The passenger seat and backrest have been revised for more comfort, while the sissy bar has new trim that matches the new two-tone leather console panel. Both the revised saddle bag and seat trim have been restyled.
SPORTSTER WITH REVISED SUSPENSION
Another change that came with the new Harley models is the suspension upgraded on the 883 Custom, 1200 Low and 1200 Custom, with springs and dampening rates recalibrated and new damping devices installed to provide superior ride quality. All Sportster models get a new low-profile front fender that hugs the tire for a streamlined, custom look. The 883 Custom and 1200 Custom models receive new rear wheels that reduce unsprung weight by four pounds while maintaining stiffness and durability. The 1200 Custom has a new chrome cast aluminum slotted disc rear wheel, while the 883 Custom rear is a silver cast aluminum.
RESTYLED STREET BOB
The Street Bob’s chopped rear fender and a retro tail light give the Street Bob a new old-school look. The solo seat gets redesigned, and new laced wheels feature gloss black rims. Internally wired mini-ape-hanger bars, the authentic Fat Bob fuel tank and wrinkle-black trim complete the minimalist Street Bob profile. All Dyna models feature a new silver-face speedometer with fuel range read-out, a new low-profile front fender and a new fuel sender.
