2011 STREET GLIDE CVO

The New 2011 Street Glide CVO

Harley Davidson has introduced three new models for the 2011 year. The SuperLow, XR1200X and Road Glide Ultra models will join the already expansive model-year motorcycles.

Harley Davidson Described in a press release from Harley Davidson, the new SuperLow features revised front-end geometry, new wheels and tires and a reshaped seat and handlebars to achieve well-balanced handling and comfort. The new style “will inspire confidence in new riders and exhilarate those with experience.”

The second model, the new Road Glide Ultra has the qualities of a frame-mounted fairing and luxury touring accommodations. The “Long-haul beauty” has a Twin Cam 103 engine, a King Tour-Pak luggage carrier, venting fairing lowers, ABS, Harley-Davidson Smart Security System, cruise control, and a four speaker, 80-watt Harman/Kardon Advanced Audio System.

XR1200X, the last of the new models is described as, “Harley-Davidson Sportster performance honed to its finest edge,” featuring adjustable front and rear suspension, floating front brake rotors and the “surging power of a high-compression 1200cc Evolution V-Twin engine.”

Also for 2011, Harley Davidson will be offering new PowerPak Touring Combos and ABS for Softail models. This includes select Touring models that will benefit from the new PowerPak, which bundles the Twin Cam 103 engine with ABS and the H-D Smart Security System.

PowerPak will be offered as a standard feature on the 2011 Road King Classic, Electra Glide, Ultra Limited, and Road Glide Ultra models. They will also offer this feature as a factory-installed option on the 2011 Stree Glide and Road Glide Custom models.

The 2011 Hardly-Davidson Softail models, except Cross Bones are newly available with optioinal ABS, as well as new hand controls.

Harley-Davidson Opens First Dealership in India

Harley-Davidson is hoping that the motorcycle market in India will embrace the need to "Hear the Roar!" Harley-Davidson opened its first dealership in India last Friday in the southern city of Hyderabad. The Motor Company has plans to open stores in other Indian cities in the near future, including the capital, New Delhi, and the financial hub, Mumbai.

India is the world’s second-largest motorcycle market (behind China), but most sales are small, inexpensive motorcycles or step-thru scooters that can maneuver through India’s congested city roadways. There are open roads outside of the big cities, but these are often riddled with potholes and are for the most part poorly maintained. Fortunately, the country has been investing in building new highways.

Harley-Davidson looks to tap into one of the fastest growing economies around and hopes to attract business from the emerging Indian middle class which suddenly has disposable income. One of the ironies of its expansion though is its attempt to sell “freedom of the open road” to a country whose streets are notorious for their congestion. Since there’s a dearth of open roads, the new rally cry for H-D’s Indian market will instead be “Hear the Roar!”

The Hyderabad H-D will feature 12 Harley-Davidson motorcycles, at least one from each of its five model families. The Harleys will be completely assembled before shipping and will range in price from 695,000 to 3,495,000 Indian rupees. This translates to around $15,200 to $76,000 US, roughly double the domestic price because of high import tariffs. In its 2010 First Quarter results, sales of Harleys here in the States was down 24.3% in comparison to the year before, but international sales only dipped by 2.8%, lending validity to the company's need to invest into foreign markets.

NHRA V ROD

Hines takes V-Rod to NHRA semi-finals at Norwalk

Norwalk (June 27, 2010) - Screamin' Eagle®/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines raced a Harley-Davidson® V-Rod® to the semi-final round of Pro Stock Motorcycle eliminations at the Summit Race Engineering NHRA Nationals at Summit Motor Sports Park. With his weekend results, Hines moves up to third place in the series season standings. The event was won by Al-Anabi Racing Buell rider Matt Smith. Hines qualified third for the event with an elapsed time (ET) of 6.934 seconds. Screamin' Eagle/Vance Hines rider Ed Krawiec qualified eighth at 6.974 seconds. Lincoln Tech Suzuki rider Steve Johnson led qualifying with a 6.929 ET.

Krawiec lost to VRoom Racing Buell rider David Hope in the first round of Sunday eliminations, after leaving the line with 0.239-second reaction time and a 7.051 ET to the 0.042/7.025 pass posted by Hope. "I screwed up and got way out of my focus area at the line," said Krawiec. "I had a good bike today, and we made progress with some new parts this weekend. Hopefully we can do a little more R&D before the next race and come back stronger." Hines defeated Pirana Z Buell rider Junior Pippin in round one and Suzuki rider LT Tonglet in round two to earn a semi-final match with Hector Arana on the Lucas Oil Buell. Arana prevailed with a 0.013/7.033 run to beat the 0.065/7.026 pass made by Hines. Arana then lost to Smith in the final round.

"I was shooting for a 0.040 reaction time, and just came off the line too slow," said Hines. "You can't do that in this class any more. I will say that Arana took a chance on the tree today and it worked out for him. The Harley-Davidson team had a good weekend. We installed some new chassis and engine parts and didn't have time to test before we left for Norwalk, and saw some positive results early. Then we kind of got lost on the set-up, but we know how to get that back for the next race." With eight rounds of the 17-race 2010 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle season complete, Arana leads in points with 721, followed by Smith with 601 and Hines with 562 points. Krawiec is in seventh place with 453 points.

The next Pro Stock Motorcycle event on the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series schedule is the Fram-Autolite NHRA Nationals, July 16-18, at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. Screamin' Eagle Performance Parts are inspired by and built in the spirit of the raw adrenaline and power of motorcycle racing. Screamin' Eagle Pro parts are specifically designed for race-use applications, while Screamin' Eagle parts offer street-use performance options for the Harley-Davidson motorcycle owner. Visit www.harley-davidson.com for more information. The Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hines Pro Stock Motorcycle team is sponsored by Matco Tools, Dunlop and S100.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON XR1200X

THE NEW 2011 XR1200X

XR1200X Takes Sportster Performance To A New Level Fully-Adjustable Premium Suspension and Full-Floating Front Brake Rotors June 03, 2010 MILWAUKEE (June 3, 2010) – The XR1200X is Harley-Davidson® Sportster performance honed to its finest edge. Introduced in 2010 for export markets only, the XR1200X will be available through Harley-Davidson dealers in the United States as a 2011 model. Equipped with fully-adjustable Showa® front and rear suspension components, the 2011 XR1200X can be dialed in to match rider weight, riding style and road conditions.

The XR1200X combines this premium suspension with enhanced front brakes and the responsive punch of a high-compression, 1200cc Evolution® V-Twin engine in a dynamic, street-performance motorcycle. With a tank and tail section designed to evoke the legendary Harley-Davidson XR750 – the king of the gritty American flat-track scene – the XR1200X puts its mechanical character on display. Wide flat-track bars and rearset footpegs position an assertive rider for active control. The XR1200X has a blacked-out powertrain and exhaust, revised tank graphics, and black wheels with an orange rim pinstripe. The XR1200X will be offered in two colors: Black Denim and White Hot Denim. With a base price of $11,799, the XR1200X Features:

• Showa Big Piston Front fork (BPF) eliminates many of the internal components used in a cartridge-type fork, resulting in lighter overall fork weight. The large-diameter of the BPF internal piston allows a reduction in damping pressure for outstanding feedback and smooth action. Rebound and compression damping may be fine tuned with adjuster screws located on top of the fork bolts. The spring pre-load is adjusted with a M5 hex screw on the axle holders.

• Showa rear shocks feature 36mm pistons with piggy-back nitrogen charged reservoirs. The compression damping may be adjusted with a knob on top of the reservoir. Rebound is adjusted with a thumb wheel on the lower clevis. Rear spring pre-load is also adjustable.

• Nissin® dual front brakes feature 292mm full-floating rotors and four-piston calipers.

• Isolation-mounted XL Evolution 1200 cc V-Twin engine with black powdercoat finish features downdraft Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), high-performance camshafts, precision oil-cooled cylinder heads and a large-capacity oil cooler. Compression ratio is 10:1. The engine is rated at 74 ft. lbs. peak torque @ 4000 rpm (per SAE J1349).

• Upswept, high-volume 2-1-2 straight-shot exhaust system with satin black finish offers extra cornering clearance.

• Chassis features a high-performance designed tubular mild steel frame. The rigid, cast-aluminum swingarm is engineered to enhance handling.

• Dunlop® Qualifier D209 tires were designed specifically for the XR1200X.

• Three-spoke lightweight cast-aluminum wheels, 18-inch front / 17-inch rear, are finished in gloss black with an orange pinstripe on the rim.

• Wide, black dirt-track handlebar for enhanced steering leverage and comfort.

• Rearset foot pegs for additional cornering clearance.

• Compact instrument display with white-faced analog tachometer, digital speedometer, dual trip meter and clock.

• 3.5-gallon fuel tank with aircraft-style aluminum alloy fuel filler.

• 29.2-inch seat height with standard passenger pillion and foot pegs.

• Optional Harley-Davidson® Smart Security System. Harley-Davidson Motor Company produces heavyweight custom, cruiser and touring motorcycles and offers a complete line of Harley-Davidson motorcycle parts, accessories, riding gear and apparel, and general merchandise.

THE 2010 SPORTSTER 1200X 48

The Harley-Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight (or is it 48?), has made its way out of Milwaukee in time for the 2010 model year. Based on the Sportster 1200 platform, the Forty-Eight is the latest addition to Harley’s “custom” offering. It differs from its Nightser et al counterparts with a bobber meets cafe racer appeal, but keeps the ubiquitous orange and black color schemes. Fatties on the front and rear rims, the black on polish Forty-Eight gets its motivation from the 1200cc Evolution v-twin motor that’s wedged into the Sportster chassis. The bike is certainly an attractive piece from Harley-Davidson, but also fails to really distinguish itself from the rest of the Harley line-up. Mirrors are underslung, the license plate is side mounted (we doubt the DOT saw that), and a 2.1 gallon fuel tank keeps things a strictly “around the town” sort of affair. While Harley-Davidson is clearly targeting the under 40 crowd with the Forty-Eight, we’re still not sure the cruiser brand has really figured out to appeal to the next generation of rider yet. As such we’d probably never buy a Harley, but if we did, the Forty-Eight is probably closer to what we’d be looking for from Milwaukee. Pricing starts at $10,499, and the Harley Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight comes in Vivid Black with Brilliant Silver, and Mirage Orange Pearl is also available.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON® FORTY-EIGHT™ IS A RAW AND RADICAL RIDE New Sportster® Model Brings Brawn as Chiseled Custom with Power and Performance MILWAUKEE (January 22, 2010) – The new Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight motorcycle is a factory custom in the legendary tradition of the hot rod Sportster line with the raw, elemental appeal of the Dark Custom™ bikes. Riding low with a slammed suspension and featuring the classic 2.1-gallon “peanut” fuel tank, the Forty-Eight backs up its bulldog appearance with the performance of its blacked out and polished rubber-mounted Evolution® 1200 cc V-Twin engine. The low solo seat, under-mounted mirrors, side mount license plate, clean rear fender and tall and fat front tire emphasize the Forty Eight’s focus on chiseled customization. And while the Forty-Eight model may break bad when it comes to radical attitude and straight-on style, it won’t break the bank starting at just $10,499 MSRP in Vivid Black.
